*Happiest of Birthdays to .Emily H., Kelly N. and Larry D.!!!

*As we enter the running season, it is important to have a post-workout plan in order to keep you healthy and injury-free. A) Cool-downs are necessary because they bring your body temperature and heart rate down, loosen tight muscles, flush out any lactic acid accumulation and allow for a smooth mental and physical transition to your normal state. 10-15 minutes of an easy activity (a light jog, for example) is appropriate). B) Hydrate in order to replenish lost fluids and electrolytes (potassium and sodium). To evaluate your fluid needs, weigh yourself before and after each workout. Every pound you lose equals two cups of fluid that need to be consumed. C) Eat a protein/carbohydrate combo. within 60 minutes after exercising. It is during this time that the body absorbs carbohydrates more readily. You will, therefore, fill your glycogen fuel tank, which can give you more energy for subsequent workouts. Stay tuned for more Post-Workout recommendations next week!!!
